So spring has returned to Southern California. Well actually, with the exception of about 2 weeks, we never really had winter. I know I know, everyone else in the country feels so sorry for us, I’m sure. But I really do like rain and wind and cooler temperatures every so often. We need something to break up the 80 degree days:)
But since it’s been sunny and nice recently, I’ve been keeping everything a bit cleaner. Much fewer processed foods, lots of salads and fruit and smoothies, and lots of water. And I’ve been doing quite well with that, until I saw something in the grocery store that made me go slightly off course. These were the culprits:
I tried not to, but I just couldn’t help myself because I actually did miss sour cream & onion potato chips when I went vegan. And I was completely thrilled a couple of years ago when I found this recipe for raw sour cream & onion kale chips. They are amazing and cure every craving I could ever have and are completely healthy.
But when I saw the potato chips, I had to give them a try. And they are total winners. I’m not generally a fan of kettle chips, as they’re usually too thick and hard for my taste, but these are nice and crispy but not hard. (The cheddar was thinner, but I’m not sure if that’s by design or just happened that way in the ones that I got).
The sour cream and onion were everything I’d imagined, right from the onion-y smell when I opened the bag to the powdery coating left on my fingers after I ate them. And the cheddar…. amazing. Light and crispy, with a strong cheesy flavor in every bite. Yum!
And now that I’ve tried them, I can go back to a more whole-food fresh diet tomorrow… and I know where to find these when I need them 🙂
Did you know that Earth Balance is now making a whole assortment of snack foods now? Besides the chips, they have Aged White Cheddar popcorn and puffs, and Buttery Popcorn, and these Peanut Butter Pops, which I haven’t tried yet but look very interesting!

I haven’t seen these new chips yet – not yet in Portland, maybe they are available @ FoodFight. I really want to try the Sour Cream + Onion one!
I’ve only found them at Whole Foods so far…. I’d think that the vegan mecca of Portland would have them somewhere! And much to my surprise, I think I might like the cheddar ones better. I thought the cheddary flavor might be too much, but it’s actually perfect. I may have to give them another taste test to see which is the the winner 🙂
Aaah I’ve been on the lookout for those sour cream and onion chips. That used to be my favorite treat when I was still on the dairy train.

our whole foods aisle with these has been empty both times i went.. i got 2 packs of the the cheddar popcorn to help me survive till i can find the sour cream onion:)
I know! I haven’t been able to find them in any WF since that first day. Wondering now if they are testing in select locations before the main launch, since no one seems to be able to find them in other big cities. I’m glad I found them then because they are AWESOME, but now they need to come back!
