Frosty Strawberry Basil Smoothie

For me, certain herbs and spices go with certain things. Like cilantro ~ perfect in a salad or dressing, but not so much in my green juice. (I’ll just have to have more of One Lucky Duck’s Thai Green Juice to get used to that 🙂 )  Or curry ~ great with my veggies but I can’t quite imagine it with something sweet. Note to self: try this Sweet Curry Coconut Milk Ice Cream

Ginger goes with everything of course, as does parsley. But basil is another one of those that I don’t tend to associate with sweet things, so I was pretty surprised today when I suddenly had a desire to add some basil into my strawberry smoothie. All I could do was go with it, and it was great!

Even though it’s summer and strawberry season, I used frozen fruit because we’re still having 95+ degree days and wanted to make this as cold as I could without waiting for it to chill.

Frosty Strawberry Basil Smoothie

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 5-10 basil leaves (I used 5 large ones + 5 small ones)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 slice of lemon (including the rind)
  • Enough water to reach the right consistency

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth.

Makes 2 large servings (about 4-5 cups).

    1. It’s growing on me 🙂 Didn’t you just do something with strawberry & basil? Martinis or margaritas or something?

  1. Thanks for the mention, Kelly. Aimee’s coconut milk ice cream recipes are the best! Mmm strawberry basil smoothies! Sounds delicious! 😀
