Vegan Bangkok

I stayed in Bangkok for 2 additional days after the week in Bhutan. I went to Happy Cow, my usual source for vegan restaurants and stores when traveling. Happily, there was a list of more than 30, and I chose 2 for my days here.

The first that I went to was Kwan-Imm Jae, featuring Thai and Chinese vegan dishes.

It was very good Thai food – I wanted some variety, so I chose a noodle dish and a tofu soup.

I love noodles, and these were really delicious – perfectly spiced with lots of crunchy vegetables.

The soup was also really flavorful – a spicy broth with tomatoes, soft tofu, cabbage and parsley. I also added some chili peppers and chili oil to make it spicier.

Today, my last day in Bangok, I chose something completely different – an organic, raw vegan cafe. If you followed my Bhutan posts, you might have noticed that the majority of the food was cooked. It was really wonderful and tasty, but I typically have salad at least once a day and other raw foods, so I’ve been feeling the need for raw. I was so happy to find Ariya Organic Cafe to satisfy my desire….

The food… A.MA.ZING. I wanted the whole menu, so I chose an incredible juice, a salad and some veggie rolls.

The juice was green apple, pineapple and lemon – perfectly sweet-tart.

And the salad…. most incredible… was the Paradise Salad. Paradise indeed!

Butter lettuce, red cabbage, carrot shavings, onion, diced red and yellow pepper, sliced almonds, raisins, and the most wonderful dressing. I’m guessing it was a light miso-cashew-lemon dressing, which I will immediatly try to replicate – it was the best ever! Oh, and a perfectly light and crisp Italian flax cracker. I don’t usually like flax crackers because they are generally too thick and hard and the flax seeds get stuck in my teeth 🙂 but this was perfection.

And these are the Secret Rolls…. incredible. I’m not a big fan of seaweed, so I chose these rolls that had a daikon wrapper, and came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce.

I came out of this meal feeling light and energized from all of the organic raw goodness. What a perfect meal!

And now I’m preparing to head to the airport, back to California, where I can finally get back to making my own kitchen creations. See you from there!
